The golden scepter of revival fire touched Simmesport in the year of 1979. Elder Arthur Drummer, Jr. , a young energetic preacher was the evangelist. Many souls were saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. God’s will and divine plan led Elder Drummer and his family to Simmesport to start a ministry. Thus in June of 1983, The Full Gospel Holy Temple Church of Simmesport was born. This ministry has weathered many storms and substantial opposition over the years, but still stands victoriously. God’s hand has been upon Elder Drummer, strengthening him to rebound from attacks that would have spiritually fatal, but for the grace of God. Knowing that God sent him back to his hometown of Simmesport, each time Elder Drummer faced a trial, he know that somehow he would prevail, because faith finds a way. God’s divine plan for the Simmesport ministry has unfolded and blossomed over the years in the birth of the following outreach efforts.
1985: radio ministry (current station 1500 AM KCLF).
1989: opening of Full Gospel Holy Temple Christian Academy.
1998: initiation of the prison ministry.
2002: birth of the Gospel Militia (witnessing team).
2004: birth of the Sunbeams ( youth 3-12 who visit nursing homes singing and delivering gifts).
2004: creation of The Young Christian Times youth newsletter (distributed in public libraries).
2006: the Active Word (Christian Drama).
The Simmesport ministry has also, over the years, produced strong, scholarly representation for the “Know Your Bible Contest” held at the Annual Full Gospel Holy Temple Convocation. The officials of Avoyelles Parish have recognized the work of this ministry and esteemed Elder Drummer as a native son who came home and “made good”.
